Storytelling Festival-14th to 28th September 2013
Hounslow basked in stories in Septemeber with the first ever south Asian Storytelling Festival featuring traditional forms of Sutradharaa, Rajastahani and Bhavai to contemporary approaches such as rap as well as the many diverse ways of telling stories for example - gestural Kathak.
The Festival brought UK’s foremost storytellers - Peter Chand, Roop Singh, Vayu Naidu Co, Rez Kabir and Seema Anand to Hounslow, while it showcased local talent of Shaida Mehrban, Beant Sachar and Brij Haldani.
We made an impact within a community whose culture is steeped in the tradition of oral story-telling with its various manifestations and diversity, and for the community to re-discover this rich tradition within a context of contemporary culture -- not just to archive but to make storytelling a living cultural tradition! And not just to celebrate, but also to share…
The StoryLand Festival was funded with the support of Arts Council of England, and developed by The Artta (arts development partnership of zeroculture and Collage Arts). It was been generously supported by the White House Surgery.
